Milk Money
Mar 16, 2025
I spend a dollar more for milk to save $22. Seriously I do. I usually go to BJ’s to get milk, half and half, OJ and spinach artichoke dip, don’t judge me. I used to get the buffalo chicken dip but after an endoscopy and such intense acid reflux that I now carry me Prilosec with me, and my EpiPen. That you can judge me for. But sometimes it’s late at night and BJ’s is closed and I need my cereal fix. Again, don’t judge me. There is no problem in life that a bowl of cereal eaten at night can’t fix.
I save money by overspending for milk at the gas station mini mart.
So, I know what you’re thinking—"Why would anyone buy milk at a gas station? Isn’t that the most expensive milk ever?” And you’d be right! With CVS a close second. This milk? $5.99. At the grocery store, it’s $4.99. BUT—I’m saving money. Yeah, I said it! It’s like $2.50 at BJ’s.
Let me break it down for you. When I go there, I buy the milk, and I LEAVE. That’s it. Transaction done. Six bucks, bye-bye.
But when I go to the grocery store? Oh, it’s not just milk. Oh no! It’s milk…Oh look, the crackers we like are on sale.…and ooooh, look! There’s a sale on cheese. And—wait—did I just throw a $15 candle into my cart? Yeah, I did.
Suddenly, my $4.99 milk turns into a $32.99 grocery trip. Minimum.
Let’s face it, the grocery store is a trap. A trap for your wallet, your time, and your self-control. And you know what? I fall for it EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I’m not judging you for that.
But this, this overpriced gas station milk? It’s my money-saving hero. Sure, I’m technically paying an extra dollar for it, but that dollar is my “I didn’t buy a $5 vanilla and Lavender candle” insurance.
And look, I don’t even buy the candy bar by the checkout. I’m in and out in two minutes. Efficiency!
I rarely have cash on hand so I can’t buy lottery tickets.
Moral of the story? Sometimes, paying a little extra saves you a whole lot more. And no, this isn’t me trying to justify buying milk at a gas station—it’s a LIFE HACK, okay?
Gas station milk keeps me on budget and out of the grocery store trap. Cheers to that!
