Don't Make Your Own Laundry Detergent
Mar 22, 2023Please don’t make your own powdered laundry detergents.
You find a blog post that reads: Make your own laundry detergent for pennies a load!
I’ve clicked on it and even made my own laundry detergent once. That’s when I learned why you shouldn’t make your own powdered laundry detergent.
Is it cheaper? Yes it is. And it’s pretty simple to do.
Should you do it? NO!
Powdered laundry detergent does not fully dissolve in cold water. Using hot water uses 90% of the energy needed to run a washer. The money I saved making my own detergent has literally gone down the drain.
Chunks of undissolved detergent clog your washer. It created a blockage in the drainage system. You risk flooding your laundry room, having to call a plumber and may need a new washing machine.
If you have a septic system, it can clog the aeration chamber. I don’t want to know what a backed up septic system is like.
All so you can save a little bit of money on soap.
